stdole32.tlb error with excel 2007

I have the same problem that Steve had in his post. Everytime I open Excel I get the stdole32.tlb error and Office starts the reconfigure and install screen. When I cancel, Excel finally opens fine.He said that he copied in David's Dword text and ran it, replacing Word with Excel and that it solve his problem with opening Excel. I would like to know what David's Dword text is and how to use it, and hopefully solve may stdole32.tlb problem. Any help would be appreciated. Pasted below are post of Steve's in Mar 2010.

Actually, I copied in David's Dword text and ran it, replacing Word with Excel and now Excel also opens without the STdole32.tlb or configuration errors, thanks David. Your solution worked in both Word and Excel.

Associate a file with either word 2003 or word 2007

Now that I've gotten MS Word 2003 & 2007 to play nicely with each other, I noticed that when I double click on a word file, it defaults to Word 2007. I've gone to the "default programs" area to change this option but 2003 is not available. I've also tried to manually reassociate the individual file with Word 2003. However, unlike other programs you can change the association, Word 2007 is the only one that shows up even when I browse and locate Word 2003. Is there anyway to add Word 2003 to be able to associate a file with it? It seems to work fine and selects the right version when I double click on an Excel file, just not Word. Thanks.

Hello all, I was just wondering if anybody can help us, we are currently running Office 2010 but we need to insatll Office 2007 so that we can use a programme that uses 2007 version. Firstly, can we do this? Secondly, what is the best way to do this?

Error in Excel 2007

I am using Office 2007 ulitmate and had migrated my settings from an older windows vista laptop using a transfere cable. I installed the office suite on my new Windows 7 computer but, only when opening an Excel 2007 file, I get the following message:

Microsoft Office Excel

'C:\users\steve\appdata\roamin\/microsoft\searchcommands\excel\scoutcomands.xlam'couldnotbefound. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.

If I click on the Ok, in the message, then the file opens up. Any help would be appreciated.

Assistance with Vista, XP and Office 2007

Hi,

I own a Dell which came with XP Pro. I upgraded to Vista. I bought Office 2007 and installed it onm Vista. Eventually, I bought another XP Pro license and setup my machine to dual boot.

In XP, however, none of the Office apps work saying simply ...

"The operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

Any thoughts ?

Apache mime types for Windows 2007 files

I hope someone can assist me with this issue. In apache 1.0 diskfileupload it seems when a docx file is attached to an application the mime type is incorrectly recorded as application/octet-stream if the document is open when attached. When the document is closed at the time it is attached the mime type is correctly recorded. Is this meant to happen or is there a fix for it?

Office 07 duplicating files and using ~$ in file name

Hi David,

About 1 month ago I installed Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 and everything was working fine. Since yesterday I notice that everytime I open a file (in Word, Excel & Powerpoint) a duplicate file is created with the same file name, except the first two letters in the file name are replaced by "~$". (for example, "Resume" doc is duplicated as "~$sume").

I tried to open the duplicate file, and get a message "The Office Open XML file ~$ume cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents." I click for more details and it says "The file is courrupt and connot be opened".

What is causing this, and how can I fix it?

Access 2007 Configuration when first run

Hi guys,

I have a Windows Server 2003 TS farm running Office XP on the base build. I am trying to install access 2007 to the base to facilitate an upgraded app.

The app does quite a few irritating things, the most annoying being that it performs a HTTP call to a remote DB, when it does this it starts a service of some description... I have been trying to use Softgrid to deliver Access 2007 to avoid putting it on to the base but am getting no joy because Softgrid (4.1) cannot cope with runing services.

So ..... I am forced into puting it onto the base. It runs the Configuration/setup when I load a 2007 file. After this it won't run again until someone runs a 2003 file. Then 2003 does the same and runs the installer, once they have finished, if anyone wants to get back into the 2007 files they have to wait for the insaller to finish.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this? I have been told that the Office Res Kit may be of use but am not sure. I have tried hacking the registry both manually and using SUBINACL with no useful results.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated !

I have two versions MS office 2007 and 2003.When I open word 2007 I get a window Configuring Process, Configuring MS office Enterprise 2007. It takes 4 minutes to complete the configuration process and finally MS word 2007 opens. After I close Word 2007 and open again it doesn't start with the Configuration Wizard.
The interesting thing is when close word 2007 and open word 2003 a window appears windows installer preparing to install and word 2003 opens within few seconds. Now if close word 2003 and open word 2007 the same Configuration wizard appears as said above.Both the office versions are licenced copy This wizard keeps coming when only when open word .Any tips will be greately appreciated

the BCM dirty little secret or Getting a "Handle" on improving BCM performance

All of us loyal users of Outlook know of its history of being bloated and slow. When you add BCM 2007 to OL 2007 you get a "handle count" which exceeds the Windows XP capability. I performed this test on 5 separate computers all running Windows XP, OL 2007 and BCM 2007.and in each case I found the Handle Count after initialization to grow on average to 14.500 (with an exchange mailbox). So what is the big deal? The windows xp O/S was only configured for 10,000 Handles per application. OL2007 alone is in the 4,000-7,000 range. What is the effect? Your system degrades and BCM can give you system memory errors and lock you out of certain folders.

The Fix is there are instructions elsewhere on the web to increase the Handles up to 18,000, by making mods in RegEdit. Also, remove all add-ins which are not absolutely required. Keep PST files to a bare minimum and avoid IMAP PST. If necessary create a separate Outlook Profile for BCM, which has a minimalist approach. Also, remember Add-ins apply to all profiles.

How did I discover this. I have a 4 cpu Dell Workstation which was barely running when BCM started. As it turns out I had a system of 99,000 Handles and 86,000 Belonged to OL2007 and BCM 2007. I reinstalled OL2007 and BCM2007 with the assistance of MS Support and gradually stripped OL to the bare bones and then recreated the results on other Desktops and Laptops to check for consistency.

Showing "linked to" in various areas of BCM for outlook 2007

The field chooser does not seem to give us the right fields to display in order to show which account and/or contact a project, project task or regular task is linked to. The only thing that gives that info is the opportunities where we can see in the view the account that it is linked to. Do you have any insight into this please?

07 outlook help - sharing contacts

hey,

i am trying to share a contact folder with other people in the business.

once i have created the folder and a person who i am sharing it with goes to their address book it does not come up under outlook contacts.

how can i get this to happen??

ive tryed going to right click on the contact folder - properties - administration tab and then add folder address to: contact, although it is greyed out? how can i get this fixed

i need a solution asap please, thanks

Microsoft Language packs

I have bought and downloaded a Microsoft Spanish language pack - which I hoped was going to help me with translating my course work.

I saved it, right clicked and installed it. It shows in the list of programs for uninstalling etc, but it doesn't actually seem to do anything at all in Office 2007. I haven't noticed much improvement in the language help in Word 2003 either but it is better than 2007!

I wondered if you could help please?

Your instructions for stopping Office trying to configure itself - both 2003 and 2007 - every time I opened them, worked wonderfully.

Word 2007 Default font issue

Heres one for ya all sent to me by our first full vista and 2007 client.

“When you open word as a programme, any default settings (eg. Font, pitch) that have been set by the user automatically appear correctly. However, if you are already working in Word and open a new document when in an appropriate folder, by right click, new, Word document, then the user set defaults do not appear.”

i know this is a slightly "Cack?" handed way of doing it but admin girls will be admin girls and it seemed to work ok in 2003 is their anyway of setting this?

on an overall note Office 2007 (and Vista) has been received well and has very minor niggles only - so far.

BCM 2007 - shared across multiple offices?

A client wants to use BCM 2007 in a shared environment based on SBS R2 Premium. Happy with how to set that up.

However, they also have a second site which will probably have a W2K3 server (DC) or a second SBS server (although this is not recommended based upon the SBSMultsrv document in the doc library on this site).

What is the best way to ensure the remote office has speedy, reliable access to BCM also? Will it require some sort of DB replication? Will this be fast enough over DSL?

While using BCM 2007 to create reports e.g. "Quick Business Contacts List", I am unable to include the "Company" field in the report. Even when I use the Modified Report option, I am still unable to include the "Company" field. Has anyone got a solution?

Medialess Office 2007

As 2003 is not available I am forced to supply 2007, however there's no media.

The supplier said to download the trial and then activate using the key. I don't want to have to sign up for the trial because its not for me and I don't want to be spammed to death from MS.

As I only buy in singles its unlikely I will come across the OPK (if that exists)

So how do I set up Office 2007 as an OEM?

Installing Office 2007 Enterprise from Action Pack

I am trying to install Office 2007 Enterprise from the Action Pack onto a Vista Business PC that was setup using the Action Pack DVD.

I am getting the message: "D:\Enterpriser.ww\osetup.dll digital signature does not validate or is not present".

I have tried copying the DVD contents to a HDD folder and running setup from there, but get the same result.

Anyone have any bright ideas?

Action Pack Project 2007 pro

I've installed Vista Business, Office 2007 Enterprise from the Action Pack. When I try to install Office Project Pro 2007 I get an error telling me to "Locate your earlier version of Microsoft Office"

The installer for Project 2007 won't recognise Office 2007 or Office 2003, (I've tried both combinations)

What am I missing here?
